Subfield of Research: a) Professional (moral) dilemmas and moral distress

Care ethics is an interdisciplinary field of inquiry focusing on the question how to build a life sustaining web in which we can live as good as possible. Practices of care play a central role in researching the moral understandings and lives of people. Critical insights such as relationality, vulnerability, and embodiment are important for the perspective of care ethics. In our research we aim to integrate qualitative empirical research with philosophical reflection, drawing on e.g. phenomenology, grounded theory, and discourse analysis. Research can focus on or combine lived experiences, practices and policy texts. The Care Ethics group welcomes research themes focusing on the beginning of life, people with disabilities, the end of life (including loss and grief), and arts and aesthetics.

Examples of research questions

What is the lived experience of people who say they have a completed life?

How can we support people with mild to moderate dementia in their search for meaning?
