'Of great value to the professional field'
"The theses clearly reflect the distinctive profile of the programme," the review committee said. "Students conduct solid qualitative research, interacting in it with key authors and social science and theoretical-philosophical insights related to citizenship. Results achieved are of great value to the professional field." The committee also sees that the first graduates have moved on to jobs in line with the programme profile.
About the master
In the one-year, full-time master's programme Citizenship, Professionalism and Civil Society, students learn to analyse, and improve relationships between citizens themselves and between citizens and public organisations. They tackle topical questions on topics such as diversity, sustainability and security of existence. The focus is on the tensions and moral dilemmas involved in the behaviour and formation of citizens in a democratic society, and in their dealings with each other and with public organisations. Programme coordinator Isolde de Groot: "Our master's offers a rich combination of insights from theory and practice around policy development, citizenship and education."
Review
In the review after three years, a new programme is vetted by an external committee of experts. They review both the entire curriculum and the individual subjects taught, and look at the quality of testing and the position of graduates in the labour market. They also visit the location where the programme is taught.
