National Students’ Survey 2019: far above the country-wide average!

The National Students’ Survey (Nationale Studenten Enquête, NSE) is held annually among students to see how they value the quality of education programmes at universities and other institutes of higher education. Students give their opinion on a scale from 1 to 5, where 1 means ‘very dissatisfied’ and 5 means ‘very satisfied’. The survey covers numerous topics, from the quality of the lecturers to the available facilities. This year the response rate was almost 40 per cent.
Students at the University of Humanistic Studies award their programme an overall score of 4.27 on a scale of 5. The general ambiance receives a 4.69, and a vast majority of students (score of 4.47) would recommend the programme to friends, family or colleagues. Themes such as content, general skills and lecturers receive above-average scores. The small scale of the institution (score of 4.32) and the preparation for the job market (score of 3.9) are also rated favourably. These scores are farthest above the national average.
Topics such as quality assurance, study assistance and programme schedules also score well. There is a strong appreciation for the practice-oriented nature of the programme, as indicated by the scores on topics such as practice-oriented research, preparation for the occupational practice, internships and overall programme. Scores are lower for internationalisation and facilities, although these do show an improvement compared to last year.

The results of the National Students’ Survey of 2019 once again show that students of the University of Humanistic Studies are very satisfied about their education programme. For nearly all of the themes (15 out of 17) they give their programme a significantly higher score than the country-wide average for all universities. They describe the content as relevant and stimulating, the education as challenging, and the lecturers as inspiring, knowledgeable and dedicated. They are also satisfied regarding their preparation for the occupational practice. The general ambiance receives a 4.69 on a 5-point scale.
